New for the 2017 season, the Alabama Interscholastic Cycling League is offering a 1-day, mountain bike specific first-aid course. This is the new mandatory first-aid training for all level-3 coaches who do not hold practices in locations 1 hour or more away from advanced EMS. Coaches who hold practices in a location more than 1 hour from EMS will still need to obtain a WFA certification.
Level-1 and level-2 coaches may fulfill their first-aid requirements with this course, or opt to take a basic first-aid course through another provider. However, due to the mountain bike specific training offered through Backcountry Lifeline, this course is highly recommended for all coaches.
Backcountry Lifelines's mission is not only to provide mountain bikers and event organizers with tools and resources to ride safer, but also to make sure that you know what to do if your friend goes down, or you’re first on the scene of an accident. If an accident happens, the next rider becomes the first responder. If your riding is close to town, and within reach of Emergency Medical Services, BCLL’s Basic First Aid is the training to start with.
Most riders WANT to know what to do in an emergency situation, but can’t find the time to get the training they need. BCLL and the Alabama Interscholastic Cycling League are bringing the training to YOU.
By providing only the most relevant and succinct instruction possible, participants will be able to complete training, and obtain “official” CPR certification, with minimal time investment.
